WHAT WE LOVE...

With Chinatown, SoHo and Little Italy on its doorstep, this buzzing 16-storey, 303-room hotel in the Lower East Side is a great change from the predictable hotel locations further north in Manhattan. It has an impressive range of facilities, including both a rooftop and ground floor bar, a piano lounge, nightclub and Japanese restaurant and a café. There's a gym and regular fitness sessions and live events. The décor is deliciously funky, playful and colourful, the guest rooms suitably comfortable and stylish.

THE DETAILS

Location

It's interesting to stay in a less obvious, more 'rough around the edges' neighbourhood, away from the tourist hordes.

SoHo, Chinatown and Little Italy are all on your doorstep. You must check out Katz's Delicatessen and the Musuem of Ice Cream - both a 10-minute walk away.
By plane: flights from London, Manchester or Edinburgh to New York take 7 hours. It's a one-hour drive from JFK airport. Parking costs $40 per day. skyscanner.net

Style & Character

The hotel is very much geared towards youthful couples and adults rather than families. We loved the playful, mischievous attitude, with a surprise around every corner.

Rooms

Our room was on one of the higher floors, with a great city view. The huge bed takes up much of the room, and the décor is funky and colourful - in the Moxy way. Modern and lively, the décor is uplifting and cool.
