Hotel Review
Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá, Madrid, Spain
The first five-star hotel in the heart of the city centre. In an arc around the hotel you'll find the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real, the cathedral and the Gran Via with its theatres and bars. The hotel itself is in the 19th-century villa of the dukes of Granada and a 13th-century convent next door. Rooms on the first floor, where the dukes and their guests stayed, are the biggest, with high ceilings and picture windows. All rooms are styled with gold and black, taking inspiration from the paintings of Spanish artist Velazquez. The wow-factor is the rooftop terrace with it's swimming pool, jacuzzi, bar and panoramic views of the city. Among the three restaurants is one by the Torres brothers who have a Michelin-starred restaurant in Barcelona.

Style & Character
Those looking for the buzz of a city-centre hotel with easy access to shops and bars will love this place. Our favourite part is the walled courtyard garden with enormous centuries-old plane trees.

Food & Drink
We love the grilled octopus served on a creamy Spanish tortilla in Montmartre restaurant. Dos Cielos has exposed brickwork and a laidback vibe, but the food is serious. Go for the tasting menu with wine pairings.
Resturant Dos Cielos: formal fine dining, modern techniques, classic Spanish flavours.
Coroa Royal Gallery & Garden: buzzing, stylish, small plates and cocktails.
Montmatre Restaurant: sophisticated, modern European cuisine.
