WHAT WE LOVE...

A boutique Relais & Châteaux hotel in the prestigious Chamberí neighbourhood of Madrid. Converted from a 19th-century palace that was once the hangout of writers and artists, the hotel retains many period features and has the air of a place that might have once been part of the Grand Tour. A small courtyard garden with a frescoed wall is a real treat in summer, and not easy to find among city-centre hotels. With just 32 rooms (of which 12 are suites), you feel as though you are staying in the home of someone's aristocratic aunt. Paintings from the 18th and 19th century adorn the walls, and choice pieces of antique furniture have been reupholstered in contemporary fabrics to brighten the period feel.
