WHAT WE LOVE...

Located just off the Plaça Catalunya, within easy reach of the city's Gothic and El Born quarters, this 92-room hotel is ridiculously central. Expertly restored from a building dating back to the 1920s, it's near many top sites, shopping, nightlife and transport links. It has cool public areas - a spacious, bright lobby adorned with artworks, a sassy cocktail bar and lively rooftop bar - popular with locals and visitors alike. Guest rooms are suitably lavish, and the Mediterranean restaurant with some local dishes, seasonal menu changes and outdoor dining, is a bonus. There's inexpensive access to a nearby health club the hotel has partnered with, with a heated swimming pool, sauna, and fitness centre.

Style & Character

Discerning leisure and business travellers of all ages are attracted to this hotel, especially those in their 30s-50s. The artworks liven up both public areas and guest rooms.

Rooms

Room 502 is big, with a large, comfortable bed livened up by a big, fabric striped headboard; there's an easy chair but the room could do with a little side table or desk. Its white walls are graced with four contemporary artworks and the bathroom has lovely deep vivid blue wall tiles. The tiny, sweet balcony overlooking Carrer de Bergara was just big enough for one little chair; perfect for watching the world go by while topping up your tan.

Signature, Balcony, Extra, Terrace Suite
Facilities include: ensuite bathroom, hairdryer, tea & coffee facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

The unpretentious local wine from Sant Josep, both sauvignon and merlot, is lovely. The beef stew with aubergine and chickpeas at Greenhouse Restaurant, a traditional, local dish, is tasty, although unusual in that chunks of meat fat are part of the dish.

The Greenhouse: Mediterranean dining with locally sourced meat and produce. Mains include sea bass and pork ribs. Open Mon-Fri 1-4pm, Sat & Sun 1.30-4.30pm.
Pulitzer Terrace: Live music, cocktails and street food. Open in summer Mon-Fri 5-11pm, Sat & Sun 12-11pm and in winter Sat & Sun.
