WHAT WE LOVE...

This swish and modern luxury hotel opened in 2018. Housed in an elegant 19th-century building, it's ideally located in the heart of Barcelona in the Eixample neighbourhood, close to great shopping and Gaudi architecture on Passeig de Gracia, lively nightlife and easy access to many of the must-see attractions of the city. The interiors, created by top designer Jaime Beriestain, have nods to Art Deco, mid-century modernism and the present day. Guest rooms are spacious, very comfortable, and have all the mod-cons and creature comforts you'd expect. The ground floor restaurant Virens is the talk of the town for its innovative plant-forward cuisine, and the rooftop bar Azimuth is a pleasingly different public space. Excellent wellness and fitness facilities add to the attraction of this hotel.

THE DETAILS

Location

We love having such diverse choice of places to explore on the doorstep; being in the lively Eixample neighbourhood but with Las Ramblas and Barcelona's beautiful old town just a short walk away, and a Metro station close by to effortlessly go further afield.

This hotel's central location is great for shopping and admiring the Gaudi architecture on Passeig de Gracia.
By plane: there are direct flights from London (2 hours 5 mins), Manchester (2 hours 20 mins) and Edinburgh (2 hours 40 mins). The hotel is a 25-minute drive from El-Prat airport. skyscanner.net

Food & Drink

For once a non-vegetarian or vegan restaurant has put vegetables first, with tasty dishes to satisfy the strongest carnivore. The lacquered sea bass with pea pil-pil of maresme at Virens features the flakiest and tenderest fish, with a delicately-flavoured sauce.

Virens: fresh, seasonal Catalonian cuisine. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from €18.
Azimuth: rooftop bar. Open daily for lunch, evening drinks and dinner. Mains from 18€.
