WHAT WE LOVE...

A superb spot for a relaxed getaway in Somerset, The Carpenters Arms is set in the quiet village of Stanton Wick, a rural idyll in the heart of the Chew Valley. It's the kind of chocolate box countryside pub that offers an entirely relaxed escape, perfect if you want to press pause, switch off and stow away to somewhere wonderfully remote for a weekend. The pub is home to 13 characterful bedrooms, pretty countryside views, hearty seasonal food, and an extensive wine list, as well as a great selection of local ales, gins and whiskies. Think long lunches by an open fire, followed by wholesome country walks straight from the front door - the perfect base to hunker down and reboot for a couple of days.

Suited to couples and walkers, as well as anyone looking for a peaceful countryside escape with plenty of idyllic hiking and biking opportunities. The cosiest nook - with its superior leather wingback chairs - is a brilliant spot for winding down with a night-cap after a hearty meal.

Rooms

We loved the cosy attic room with its quirky set up, boasting huge beams, recessed ceiling lights and a contemporary white brick-tiled walk-in shower room. Its skylight overlooks the chimney tops of the village, with the gloriously remote countryside views beyond.

Rooms 1-12, Attic Room
Facilities include: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

Wholesome and delicious, you can't beat the West Country beef, mushroom and ale pie, served with chips and peas; we loved the nostalgia of a traditional pub classic, and the Brixham fish and chips, cooked in cider batter with crushed peas and tartare sauce, ticked all the boxes.

The Carpenters Arms: pub, restaurant and terrace. Locally sourced ingredients, classics include beef burger and ham, egg & chips. All-day dining, open daily.
