WHAT WE LOVE...

There is a gently traditional quality to this small hotel on the dreamily beautiful Sleat peninsula at the south end of Skye. A long, whitewashed traditional 'gentleman's' house with a soothingly restrained country-house décor to match. Pretty bedrooms furnished with antiques where chintz is used without irony are like staying with a posh friend, but with much better bathrooms. The views across the Sound of Sleat are stunning with the Knoydart hills sketched on the horizon, a winking lighthouse in the foreground. Inside there are warm fires and traditional cooking, while in the Bar Am Pràban there's more good food, live traditional music and the inestimable pleasure of hearing Gaelic spoken by staff and locals alike.

Style & Character

This hotel is for anyone who appreciates quiet character, old-school comforts and the sound of seabirds calling. We enjoyed sitting on the end of the pier, glass of local malt whisky in hand and the Ornsay lighthouse blinking in the gathering gloaming.

Service & Facilities

We loved fishing for brown trout in a sapphire blue hill loch - better than yoga and meditation combined!

The blue room in the Main House has an imposing check and toile-hung half poster bed. The slate roof effect in one of the bathrooms was a splendid touch of whimsy.

Food & Drink

The heaping plate of vivid coral-pink, locally caught langoustine was perfectly simple and spanking fresh. To finish, a bowl of cherry coke homemade ice cream was unexpectedly, outrageously delicious.

Bar Am Pràban: rustic décor, cosy fire. Pub meals including casserole, burger and fish & chips. Open for lunch and dinner.
