Hotel Review
Fraser Suites, Edinburgh, Scotland
Tucked away near the top of the Royal Mile, these serviced apartments offer great value for money in a sought-after location. The grand Victorian building has been carefully converted to offer 75 streamlined contemporary apartments - most sleep two; some have an additional sofa-bed - with high ceilings and many with terrific city views. Spread over seven floors - the building sits on the slopes of the Old Town cliff - each has a clean look of neutral colours and fuss-free décor, with a neat kitchenette or full kitchens in the larger rooms and suites. There's a 24-hour gym plus laundry (both free to use), helpful staff plus a modest, separately run, restaurant for Continental breakfasts or simple burgers. The great location means a wide range of restaurants are within five to 10 minutes' walk.

Style & Character
These apartments suit people who want a peaceful Old Town location without unnecessary extras, and with the option for a bit of simple cooking. We love the central, but quiet, location and the good-value price.
Service & Facilities
It's really useful to be able to ask reception staff for advice on bars and eateries where locals would go.

Rooms
The suites are wonderfully spacious but the Deluxe are plenty big enough; 514 has particularly fine views over Princes Street gardens to the New Town and Forth of Forth. You'll love the city views, even if over the rooftops, plus the L'Occitane bath products which are generous and spoiling.

Facilities include: ensuite bathroom, luxury toiletries, kitchenette, desk, TV, free Wi-Fi
Food & Drink
If you decide to rustle up supper, the staff will take food deliveries or arrange a free hamper for longer-stay guests. On the advice of staff, we opted for breakfast at The City Cafe, a classic '50s diner five minutes' away in Blair Street, with great-value all-day breakfasts, red Formica tables, plus a cracking jukebox.
AUGUST37: restaurant next-door serving breakfasts, burgers and cocktails. Open daily 8-10am and 12pm 'til late.
