Hotel Review
As Janelas Verdes Inn, Lisbon, Portugal
If you thought the age of the elegant hotel with its monogrammed towels, uniformed housekeeping staff and long, lazy breakfasts was over, As Janelas Verdes will prove you wrong. In the quiet streets of the embassy district, to the west of the centre, the 18th-century townhouse oozes a gentle refined air. Bedrooms are softly carpeted, traditionally furnished and with the occasional antique as well as marbled bathrooms. Inviting sitting rooms with elegant armchairs and honesty bars are a pleasant place to relax after the madness of the city, as is the top-floor library with a roof terrace overlooking the Tagus River. Breakfast, served in the pretty courtyard, is sheer delight. After the hectic streets of the capital, the hotel offers a calm and restorative retreat.
