Roch lies within Pembrookshire Coast National Park in West Wales, an right-minute drive from Rickets Head and the coast.
By car: around 2 hours from Cardiff, 3 hours 45 minutes from Birmingham and 4 hours 30 minutes from London. Free on-site parking.

Roch Castle is perfect for couples looking for an unusual, romantic hideaway, or a group of friends - the property is often booked out for exclusive use. We love the Sun Room, a glass-sided extension on an upper floor with an outdoor viewing platform to take in the fantastic views.

The castle has a number of appealing public areas, including a little library room stocked with literature on all things to do with Wales.

All the rooms have great views out to sea or across the Pembrokeshire countryside. Our favourite is Ap Gryffydd, which has views of St Brides Bay through its big windows and is near the top of the castle.

We love the help-yourself honesty bar in the Sun Room, which includes carefully selected soft and alcoholic drinks and Welsh crisps and chocolate. If you want to go native, for breakfast order the cockles with Welsh bacon and laverbread (local, edible seaweed).

There is no restaurant on site, but picnic hampers and afternoon tea can be arranged on request. Sister hotel Twr y Felin in nearby St David, a 20-minute drive away, offers two AA-Rosette dining.
