This country-house hotel-in-miniature sits on the line of Hadrian's Wall with horizon-stretching views south across the Tyne Valley. The neat Georgian hall is deceptively larger than it looks with several reception rooms enjoying those views, plus a fleet of ten bedrooms, as well as a small spa and pool. Firmly country house in style, it's been done with a light touch, avoiding swags and flourishes but nevertheless offering traditional comforts of deep sofas and well-upholstered armchairs. People who want a luxury country-house stay but on an intimate scale will enjoy this hotel. We loved the bar - with its shiny surfaces and glamorous bar stools, it has a private-club feel.
The pool in the glass-sided pavilion has wonderful views over the valley - at night you can stare at starry skies.

The front-facing rooms have the best views over the Tyne Valley. The pretty Wedgewood china teacups are a nice touch, as are homemade scones and biscuits.
