Fronting one of the main streets of Alnwick and well-placed for exploring the town's attractions, Bondgate Boutique is a Georgian townhouse in miniature. Sitting neatly between its loftier Victorian neighbours, it's easy to overlook; inside it's been cleverly transformed, making optimum use of the small spaces to provide just seven neat and contemporary bedrooms with shower-only bathrooms. Furnishing is pared-down yet smart with big beds, bold mirrors and bright shots of colour against neutral backgrounds. No food is offered - the idea is to offer a comfortable, adults-only, stylish base within walking distance of restaurants and cafés, and at a very reasonable price.
Being able to walk from the front door to restaurants, shops and bars, without worrying about parking is a joy.
From the hotel you're within walking distance of both Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Gardens.

People who want a smart, comfortable modern base without unnecessary extras and at a good-value price will enjoy it here. We loved the refreshing simplicity and lack of fussy details.

The two Superior Rooms have more space, a striking cherry-red feature wall and super-king beds. The teas, coffees and welcoming bowl of chocolates are neatly set on a butler's tray.

We enjoyed a glass of wine on the small south-facing patio at the front of the property before venturing out to dinner. We were tempted by the discount voucher, offered to all guests, for dining at next-door Plough Inn but fell for the romance of the Treehouse Restaurant in Alnwick Garden.
The Bondgate Boutique is room-only accommodation, but The Plough Inn is next door. All rooms have a list of recommended eating places from family Italian to fine dining.
