WHAT WE LOVE...

The two 17th-century canal houses that make up The Toren are in a fab location for sightseeing, shopping and dining. Interior designer Wim van de Oudeweetering has covered the hotel with richly coloured fabrics and striking patterns, giving an almost theatrical feel. The lack of a restaurant is made up by a stylish lounge bar that's open until the early hours, and a tranquil courtyard garden. The 40 comfy bedrooms, reached via twisting staircases so often seen in these historic canal houses, are draped in opulent decor and either enjoy views of the Keizersgracht canal, the garden or neighbouring buildings. Some rooms have jacuzzis or steam showers too.
