Hotel Review
Conservatorium Hotel, Amsterdam, Netherlands
This hotel, located where Amsterdam's cultural quarter meets its shopping mecca, is essentially a melding of old and new. An imposing 19th-century building that has been given a stunning 21st-century contemporary makeover, it feels spacious and sleek. Its centrepiece, a vast glass-covered atrium, cannot fail to impress, and this houses a fabulous meeting place in the form of a large and welcoming lounge area and brasserie. These spaces are separated by glass display cabinets of beautiful contemporary craftware, and modern fixtures and fittings and furniture sit amongst more traditional items. Supremely comfortable rooms, a sophisticated restaurant and bar and top-tier spa complete the very pretty picture.

Food & Drink
We loved the little touches, like at breakfast: good quality strong coffee, juices that are super-fresh and expertly-cooked eggs Benedict, Royal, Florentine and any other way. The grilled butterflied seabass with salsa verde, salad and grilled lemon was scrumptious.
Brasserie: contemporary dining room. International cuisine, all-day menu. Open daily, mains from €22.
Taiko: sophisticated bar and restaurant. Asian-inspired cuisine and creative cocktails. Open Tue-Sat, 6pm-12am. Tasting menu from €135.
