Hotel Review
Dog & Fox, Wimbledon, London
Situated in one of London's loveliest suburbs, this pub and hotel in Wimbledon Village fulfils both its twin roles admirably. Downstairs is a cosy yet spacious public bar and dining room - its wooden parquet floor cleverly subdivided to create a sense of privacy - with several areas for events. Start your stay with an aperitif chosen from their dazzlingly-comprehensive gin menu, before moving on to a meal carefully prepared using seasonal ingredients. Upstairs are 28 characterful and comfortable rooms, each original in design and some with interiors that reference the area's illustrious tennis history. A great base for families and couples keen to avoid the hassle of central London, the Dog & Fox is a 45-minute journey by public transport into Oxford Circus.

Stylish but not intimidatingly so, this is a cut above the average pub-with-rooms, and a welcoming base for couples and families of all ages. The dapper receptionist, immaculately dressed in a waistcoat and wool blazer, set the tone for the overall experience.

Rooms
The Village Suite has splashes of decadent green, a big clawfoot bath in the room and a private terrace with outdoor furniture and throws. We loved the next-level mini-bar, featuring a smorgasbord of top-tier treats including Tyrell's crisps, Mr Filbert's nuts and Tony's Chocolonely.

Food & Drink
The breakfast is excellent, with a fulsome continental buffet on offer as well as à la carte options including eggs benedict. A pub can be judged by the quality of its fish and chips, and here they are reliably excellent - the beer-battered haddock as crispy as the accompanying triple-fried potatoes.
Dog & Fox: elegant pub and restaurant, British cuisine, seasonal menus. All-day dining, open daily. Mains from £16.
