WHAT WE LOVE...

Despite its relatively mainstream central London location, the Hoxton's Holborn branch is as self-consciously sociable and stylish as its counterparts in Shoreditch and Southwark, with the group's trademark welcoming and wide lobby area, usually full of young folk on laptops nursing a flat white or artisanal water. Beyond the lobby, its rooms are cosy yet chic and stylish, it has a terrific restaurant and is a great choice for those wanting to explore central London on foot - you can reach a lot of the city's sights and attractions from here without ever setting foot on a bus or a train.

THE DETAILS

Location

The 'My Old Dutch' pancake house is right opposite the hotel - one of few remnants of a neighbourhood that has changed massively in recent years.

In the heart of central London, you're in a prime location. Covent Garden, Oxford Street and Soho are all a short walk away.
By car: 4 hours from Manchester and less than 3 hours from Bristol. Public parking costs £30 per day.
By train: Holborn tube station is 2 minutes' walk away; London Euston is a 10-minute taxi ride. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

Visitors to central London looking for convenience but who don't want to stay in the same old faceless chains will love staying here. The £4 breakfast bag is perfect for an early start, people who don't do breakfast or - best of all - those who might want to try a second breakfast somewhere nearby.

Service & Facilities

There's contemporary art on the walls, which like other Hoxton hotels, changes regularly and is all for sale. Dogs are permitted in many rooms and throughout all the public spaces except the restaurant.

Rooms

The most recently refurbished rooms are slightly brighter, with the predominant colours white and cream rather than grey and black, and with lighter, terrazzo-flooored, white-tiled bathrooms. Mattresses are made by Naturalmat in Devon and supplied to all Hoxton hotels globally.

Shoebox, Snug, Cosy, Cosy Up, Roomy, Biggy
Facilities include: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilites, TV, radio, mini fridge, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

The wine list focuses on small yield, mainly European producers. We loved the Swaledale lamb with crispy polenta and puy lentils.

Rondo: Bistro restaurant, British cuisine. All-day menu, open daily. Main dishes from £15.
