WHAT WE LOVE...

In picturesque Borrowdale lies The Lodore Falls, one of the Lake District's longest-established hotels. The hotel has moved with the times, most recently with a swanky spa that includes an outdoor pool. It's a large and comfortable place, with gorgeous views over Derwentwater and fells, that happily mixes traditional and modern, both in its bedrooms and two restaurants. Guests can choose to be active or relaxed, with plenty of space to recline and enjoy the views - perhaps with afternoon tea in the conservatory - as well as provision for keen walkers. Dogs and children are very welcome, too.

Style & Character

With its range of bedrooms, modern and traditional restaurants, plus spa, the hotel suits everyone from families and empty-nesters to weekend-break couples. The views from most of the public rooms will keep you mesmerised for several hours if you're not careful.

Service & Facilities

Taking a dip in the outdoor hydrotherapy pool, with views over the lake and steam gently rising, is hard to resist. Most bedrooms allow dogs, and beds and bowls can be provided. They're allowed throughout the hotel apart from the restaurants and main lounge; owners with dogs can take their meals in the library lounge.

Mizu has a wonderful Asian team in the kitchen who know their stuff - as do the waiters who will help you through the lengthy menu. Mizu's sticky pork belly went down well, and we also loved the sweet potato and teriyaki salmon sticks.
