WHAT WE LOVE...

Offering a spectacular location on a hillside overlooking the lake, Villa Lario is a stylish all-suite property exuding a Mediterranean vibe. Expect light and breezy interiors painted in soft shades of cream and white, with light flooding in through large windows and drawing the eye outside. The garden and terrace offer jaw-dropping vistas of the lake and the surrounding mountains, and there's a delightful infinity pool where you can sip a cocktail or two as you watch the sun paint the sky pink. The restaurant is excellent too, serving superb Italian dishes prepared with local seasonal dishes. It's the ideal lake retreat for couples seeking a sophisticated spot with the right dose of privacy.

THE DETAILS

Location

We love the secluded hillside location 160ft above the water - the lake panorama is to die for.

The hotel has direct access to the water, so you can jump in a water limousine and explore the surrounding lakeside towns.
By plane: there are direct flights to Milan Malpensa from London (1 hours 50 mins) and Manchester (2 hours 15 minutes). The hotel is around an hour's drive from the airport. Free on-site parking. skyscanner.net

Style & Character

It's the perfect choice for couples seeking a serene getaway, plenty of privacy and top-notch cuisine in a pricey, sophisticated setting (the suites don't come cheap). The sophisticated, breezy setting invites cocktail-drinking and lounging about.

Rooms

We love the contemporary décor (a breath of fresh air from the grand lake hotels filled with antiques and frescoes) and complete seclusion. The new Il Palazzo Suites have the best views of all. You'll wake up to the sound of water lapping against the shore (the Master Tower Suite has huge glass panels offering the best views).

Food & Drink

The homemade bread is served warm and melts in the mouth, and the freshly squeezed juices and smoothies at breakfast are exquisite. There's outdoor seating on the breezy patio - sit back and enjoy an al fresco lunch under large white parasols.

Restaurant: Modern Italian cuisine. Venison, Castelmagno cheese fondue, slow-cooked Mediterranean swordfish. Mains from €3o. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Belvedere: Light meals and aperitivo.
