A grand hotel housed within an attractive 18th-century country mansion, there are acres of land to explore and a vast and diverse offering of countryside pursuit activities - from fishing to falconry - or you can simply relax in their movie theatre. Galway City is easy to get to from the hotel for more restaurant options as well as traditional Irish pubs, though the food in-house is good and a dinner in their Pullman restaurant within original Orient Express carriages is a must, not only for the fine dining food but also the cocktails; we'd recommend the Irish Mule. Accommodation is chic whilst being comfortable and boasts views of either the lough, or gardens, or both.
Just walking around the grounds was a joy in itself, and lovely to have on the doorstep.
Galway city centre isn't too far by car - check out the traditional Irish pubs, art galleries and shops. Or head to Connemara for the beaches and glorious Irish coast.
By plane: flights from Birmingham and Edinburgh take 1 hour 15 minutes, and 1 hour 30 minutes from London to Shannon. It's over an hour's drive to the hotel. Free parking on-site. skyscanner.net
The location certainly has an air of romance so couples would feel at home, but friends and families would also enjoy the array of activities. The plush chandeliers add chic country-house charm.

The Corrib Deluxe Room offers two views for the price of one, both of Lough Corrib and the immaculate estate grounds - opening the curtains is a treat. Everyone loves delicious smelling toiletries and their complimentary L'Occitane products didn't disappoint.

Only residents can have breakfast in the pretty river room restaurant, so it's not overcrowded, and the views of Lough Corrib start the day off well. The fresh Atlantic seafood chowder was homely and comforting, served with delicious traditional Irish treacle bread.
