WHAT WE LOVE...

This four-star hotel is in an historic Victorian building, an old school dating from 1880 with a stunning red brick exterior. Inside, the hotel is modern and relaxed, with well-appointed rooms plus a spacious bar and restaurant area with an all-day menu, and lots of cosy corners. Rooms are classic in décor and some have baths and original windows, while luxury executive rooms have air conditioning, extensive TV channels and Nespresso machines. The hotel has its own front grounds which set it back from the busy main road but give it convenience for public transport, and it also has a large underground car park, plus a small gym and a barber. The hotel is beside the RDS which holds many events.

The hotel has a wide appeal, ideal for those on business, a leisure break or families, and people who want to be near but not in the city centre. An historic façade and events space, the Thomas Prior Hall has original arched windows and vaulted ceilings; it was once the school assembly hall.

Food & Drink

We loved the casual vibe, space and comfortable seating in the bar area, and the outdoor tables in summer. The slow-cooked crispy lamb shank with roasted peppers, fondant potato, green vegetables and lamb mint jus was delicious.
