WHAT WE LOVE...

This is everything you'd want from a country village pub: homely yet very stylish, charming, offering great food and a wide range of drinks, and with very comfortable and attractive boutique-style rooms. It is easily accessible for London yet delightfully rural, with good walks on your doorstep. Recently refurbished to a very high standard, there's a real attention to detail, be it the dishes on the menu, the wine and beer selection or the interior design. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book, and the pub is situated next to the pretty flint and ironstone All Saints parish church and also looks out onto the village pond and weeping willows. It is a magnet for both locals and city-dwellers escaping the bustle and smoke alike.

The attention to detail includes a bank of hexagonal mirrors above the bed and pretty little dried flowers displayed in terracotta vases in the restaurant.

Food & Drink

We loved the consistently high standard of the food, for example, the salted caramel tart with vanilla crème fraiche was subtle rather than an assault of sugar - creating such delicate flavours is no mean feat. The lamb kofta with smoked ricotta, confit garlic hummus and rose harissa was beautifully presented.

The Fox Inn: modern British cuisine, locally-sourced produce, seasonal menus. Open Mon-Sun for breakfast and lunch, Mon-Sat for dinner (hours may vary). Main courses from £17.
