WHAT WE LOVE...

Opened in late 2021, Villa M is a new four-star hotel from the fast-growing hospitality group Paris Society which also operates some of the best-known bars, restaurants and nightclubs in the French capital. Designer Philippe Starck strikes a mellow note with his use of natural wood, colourful rugs and abundant medicinal plants that adorn the building's eight-storey façade and panoramic roof terrace. Set on boulevard Pasteur in the 15th arrondissement, the neighbourhood's long association with medicine is reflected in photos of French physicians and displays of vintage laboratory equipment while the 73 rooms and suites have the thrown-together feel of artist's pad. Add in a decent breakfast, a fitness centre with boxing and a bar that opens late, and this is an impressive property well-primed for both work and play.

Food & Drink

The buffet breakfast is a relaxed affair with a quality choice of pastries, jams and cold meats plus detox juices, avocado toast and eggs cooked to order. We loved the comforting bowl of creamy chestnut soup, followed by cod fillet served with a green curry sauce and mashed pumpkin.

Villa M: restaurant, bar and terrace serving French cuisine. Dishes include lamb shoulder and chicken supreme. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday brunch, 12:30-3:30pm.
