WHAT WE LOVE...

Garachico is the town that came back from the dead. Devastated by lava spewing from a volcanic eruption in 1706, this north coast port was painstakingly rebuilt. One of the properties that survived the disaster was the 17th-century home of the Marquis of Quinta Roja and family. As one of the island's ruling familias, they were founding fathers of Garachico and converted this manor house from its previous 16th-century incarnation as living quarters for Franciscan monks. This side of the new millennium, their impeccably preserved property is one of Tenerife's outstanding boutique hotels. It's situated in the island's most picture-perfect square. Going through the keyhole at Hotel La Quinta Roja THe Senses Collection turns the pages of an interactive history book.
