WHAT WE LOVE...

This long-established historic pub is located in the heart of the charming town of Marlow, half a mile from the River Thames and eight miles from the equally attractive Henley. Owned by the Brakspear brewery since 1897 (though parts of the pub date from the 16th century) there's lots of period character that has been successfully combined with many contemporary touches, especially in the smart and stylish guest rooms. There's a lively bar and an excellent restaurant of a quality you wouldn't normally expect in a high street pub. Nearby there are lots of boutique shops, restaurants and bars to explore.

THE DETAILS

We enjoyed going for a stroll along the river.

Situated on Marlow high street, you're well-placed to discover the shops and restaurants. Cliveden House is a short drive away.

Food & Drink

The service was extremely good, complemented by very good dishes. The suitably juicy rump steak and chunky chips was served with a dinky little steak & ale pie, and came with a tasty tomato and garlic purée, and mayo.

The Chequers: pub and dining room. Light lunches, hearty mains and steaks from the butcher's block. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday roast served 12-8pm.
