WHAT WE LOVE...

When the Apex City of Bath Hotel opened, it was the perfect addition to a city crying out for a place for families to stay. The Edinburgh-based Apex Hotels group has transformed an council building into a grand, modern looking hotel using Bath stone and glass. The bedrooms are lovely and large, and the restaurant is good, but the main draw is the relaxing 15-metre pool - together with a steam room and spa.

THE DETAILS

THE LOCATION

Located at the vibrant intersection of James Street West and Charles Street, The Apex offers a picturesque view of Green Park Station, once a railway station and now housing a covered market that primarily operates on Saturday's. The Roman Baths and the bustling shops of Milsom Street are conveniently nearby and you can also explore the Raven Pub and the Canary Gin Bar on Queen Street.

Bath Spa station is less than ten minutes' walk away.

By car: Bristol is around 12 miles away (30 minutes) Cardiff 50 miles (1.5 hours) and London 120 miles (3 hours). Long-stay parking is available on Charlotte Street, a few minutes from the hotel.

By rail: London Paddington to Bath Spa takes around 1 hour 20 minutes. The Apex is a 5-minute taxi ride from the station. Book trains to Bath Spa.

CHARACTER & STYLE

We adore the spacious, contemporary design and the unfussy ambience here. Whilst designed with families in focus, it successfully appeals to the corporate and event sectors, which may give it a more corporate atmosphere during the week.

THE FACILITIES

The 15-meter heated pool in the basement is a standout feature, complemented by the steam room, sauna and gym. The hotel exudes a friendly atmosphere, thanks to its youthful staff who are equipped to cater to the requirements of both discerning businessmen and families with children.

FOOD & DRINK

The restaurant on the ground floor is brightened by sizable orange ceiling shades. The diverse menu offers a fusion of British and Mediterranean cuisine, including the option for afternoon tea. Alternatively, you can enjoy a drink and the all-day menu in the friendly bar. We enjoyed the smoked duck starter with cucumber and ginger from The Smokery and the succulent Lamb Wellington.

The Orange Artichoke: international menu, Scandi design. Open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Mains from £8.95-£28.50.
